Have an audio consultation with me so we can be thoughtful about your music. A consultation costs $10, and goes towards future recording studio sessions or other audio work i do for you. As a musician, i've had a lot of awkward, unsatisfying experiences in recording studios that were charging me $80+ per hour. I think there are two reasons for those bad experiences: my lack of audio engineering knowledge at the time, and the engineer's lack of ability or desire to communicate any of that knowledge to me. I want to create satisfying and affordable experiences in my recording studio. I can demonstrate different recording & mixing techniques so you can actually learn which sounds you like. You can record in my studio or i can talk you through recording in your own space. I can create custom songs, podcast themes, or musical gifts for your loved ones. Maybe you don't want to record yourself at all, but to commission a personalized lullaby to help you sleep—let's talk through all your musical dreams. During a consultation, we'll discuss music you like, so i can get to know your sonic world. We'll decide if this is more of an artistic creation i'm making for you to enjoy, which you can pay for on a sliding scale from $25 - $100+ per hour; or if you want to make music to share with the world, in which case we can discuss distribution options and profit sharing, so that you can create the music freely without spending too much (profit sharing options ARE limited by the time i have available—the world currently requires cash to pay rent and buy food, so that's always a calculation). Scheduling & Payment Policy
If you need to re-schedule, contact me or do it through my website 24 hours in advance. This helps me plan my work days. If you feel sick, it's ok to cancel with less than 24 hours notice—respiratory illnesses are particularly nasty for singers like me, so please keep those germs to yourself :) If you feel sick but OK, we can change your in-person session to online. If you forget to attend a session, consider paying for it anyways—this often helps us take the things we're paying for more seriously. That said, i'm pretty flexible, just try to give me as much notice as you can. At the end of your first session, we'll discuss the sliding scale and how much you'd like to pay. My favorite way to be paid is through Zelle, which connects to many banking apps on a smartphone. You can also pay with cash, check, venmo, or paypal. As sessions continue, you may pay at the end of each session, or pay for a batch of sessions at once. Many folks pay at the beginning of the month for all the sessions they'll have that month. You can take lessons or record in my studio at whatever frequency works for your schedule. If your own financial situation changes for the worse, and you can no longer afford to pay the same amount for sessions, please talk to me about it. That's the whole point of a sliding scale payment system, to be flexible.
